Like a boss

Sun 12/29: BLP with a bit extra in the beginning, 7mi.

Mon 12/30: Found Klahanie Pea Patch, and did Yellow Lake. 4.8mi.

Tue 12/31: Skied at Steven's Pass again. Fell on a grind =/. Was super fun though, went with Derek and Robert's friend Trey. IT band kind of hurting a bit again...

Wed 1/1: Happy New Year! Yellow Lake + BLP, standard stuff. 7.8mi. Saw this Sophomore at Skyline running around Yellow Lake doing some sort of tempo (3 loops so 3.75 laps? at 80-90%).

Thu 1/2: Went exploring past the pea patch, basically Yellow Lake and then Issaquah-Beaver Lake Rd/Issaquah-Fall City Rd loop. 7.4mi.

Fri 1/3: Went exploring in Soaring Eagle Regional Park. Lesson learned: don't run in super twisty trails with roots everywhere late at night. ~6.5mi.

Sat 1/4: Patrician with Stan, 10.5mi. Felt really good.

Total: 44mi + skiing. Like a boss.

Back in this

Sat 12/21: Easy 2.4mi.

Sun 12/22: Yellow Lake, 3.8mi.

Mon 12/23: Since it's cold here in Washington, I usually start my runs with sweats and drop them off around ~7 minutes in. It's usually not a problem because most of my runs have a loop so they end the same way they start. Well today, I tried to explore a loop near Yellow Lake which exists according to gmap-pedometer, but eventually I hit a road and couldn't find a continuation of the trail. Not wanting to run that same puddle-y mile backwards, I kept going until I found a road I recognized. Somehow, I had ended up on the other side of my house and figured I could just explore a little around there and then run straight back home. Right before I got back, though, I realized that I had forgotten my sweats. Living on the top of the hill, that meant I had to run an extra 15 minutes up and down like 6 super steep hills. Surprisingly, my knees (and everything else!) handled it ok. I think I'm ready to bump up my mileage quite a bit. ~6.5mi.
Jk, IT band hurting a bit after the run... maybe I shouldn't bump up my mileage thattt much.

Tues 12/24: Random exploring with Robert, went through trails in Klahanie and ran near Jacob's lake. So much mud! ~5.5mi.

Wed 12/25: Merry Christmas! Went skiing at Steven's. Not running, but shouldn't hurt my training too much... Boots were way too tight for the first half though and now my achilles really hurt...

Thu 12/26: Beaver Lake Park! 6.6mi. It's been a while. Such a great route.

Fri-Sat: Off in Oregon.

Total: 24.8mi + full day of skiing

Wed 12/18: Yellow Lake, 3.8mi.

Thu-Fri: At Google for interviews, so decided it'd probably be a good time to let my legs rest.

My IT band isn't completely better, but I think it's just that I haven't used it in so long. I'll start doing exercises next week.

Also I haven't been sleeping/eating very regularly, so hopefully I'll feel less hurt after my schedule's back to normal.

Last XC race ever

Mon 10/28: Upper Arroyo, 6.8mi. Felt really good. Slalom! Monday runs are always the most fun ;P.

Tue 10/29: 9x400 at Central Park. ~7.8mi. 77, 76, 74, 74, 73, 74, 74, 76, 75. Felt pretty good during the workout, but calf uncomfortable in the evening.

Wed 10/30: Huntington up St Albans, really slow. 5.3mi.

Thu 10/31: 54321! Basically ran behind Scott and then sprinted the last minute. 5.5mi.

Fri 11/1: Prerace! Getting ready for the big day tomorrow. 3.4mi.

Sat 11/2: SCIAC Championships! Went out in 6:15 and it was over from there. Don't even wanna put my time down. 9mi total.

Total: 37.8mi.

Let's have some fun

This is kind of mind-blowing for me right now, but I think it's starting to hit me that this is my last cross country season. Ever. My last cross country race with a school team will most likely be next Saturday. More comments to come.

Mon 10/21: Casting pond, 8.4mi. R Achilles tendon was hurting during like the first half of the run, but thankfully it went away. Super fun run! We kept chasing ppl and messing with each other and other fun stuff. Best run I've had in a while. Runs like this make me really happy. :).

Tue 10/22: 8x800 splitting the mile loops at Lacy, felt really crappy, like 2:55s. Started with Will but dropped off big time and ran mostly with Rishabh. ~8.5mi.

Wed 10/23: Tu Madre, 5.6mi. Felt really bad again, partly bc I had lunch at 3pm and hadn't finished digesting yet. Ran in the back with Nick, prolly around 8min pace.
Apparently my L calf is really tight / slightly injured, so I can't run any hills for a while.

Thu 10/24: Ran 2/1 x 10 around the track b/c calf, fast parts around 5:45 pace and slow around 8:30. 7.5mi total.

Fri 10/25: San Gabriel, 4.3mi, while the rest of the team did Lacy long way. Went really slow for the calf.

Sat 10/26: 6 Rose Bowl loops in 24:58, was pretty slow. Apparently was basically the same pace as last time we ran the loops. Calf felt better, first time back with the team since Wed. ~8.3mi.

Total: 42.6mi.

Two strikes remaining

Mon 10/14: Lower Arroyo at ~7:40 pace (exactly 1 hr!). Went really easy b/c legs tired from general exertion over the weekend. Strides were awesome though. Knees kind of hurting through the evening, but hopefully that'll feel better by tomorrow. 7.8mi.

Tue 10/15: 12x400 at Central Park. 80, 78, 78, 78, 77, 77, 77, 76, 75, 78, 75, 74. Ran pretty much all of it with Elliot. Really exhausted... 9.5mi.

Wed 10/16: Garfield long way, 5.7mi. Legs really really sore. Gluts hurt for some reason. Don't feel ready for race on Friday, so hopefully will feel better soon.

Thu 10/17: Prerace, 3.4mi. Legs still pretty sore but getting better. 6 strides were pretty fast. Did like 2 hrs of stretching and rolling out.

Fri 10/18: Multi-Duals at La Mirada Park! Plan was go out at 5:50 and hold at least 6 min miles, but died the last mile. Ended up getting passed by David in the last mile and finishing in 30:21. 9mi total. Disappointing, but ohh well.

Sat 10/19: PM: DDR, but went really easy. Had a wine and food pairing before which was pretty cool.

Before you judge my lazy weekend which resulted in my extremely low mileage for the week, just know that it was important for my mental (and possibly physical) well-being.

Also, I think I'm starting to feel the effects of this sleep deprivation combined with (relatively) high mileage. I've been just exhausted for the last week or so straight.

Total: 35.4mi + bit of DDR.

6 weeks is a long time

Mon 10/7: Full Arroyo! Finally getting in a decent long run, 9.7mi. Went probably ~7:45 pace with Will and Stan. Super fun, just like old times ;P. Most of the team did lower, but he had the fast/healthy guys do full and I asked to do that too. Maybe I can count in that catagory...? haha I wish. Outside of right shin/calf was hurting quite a bit after the run, so hopefully that goes away by tomorrow.

Tue 10/8: 8x800 at Garfield. 2:55, 2:47, 2:47, 2:48, 2:48, 2:46, 2:48, 2:49. Had no idea what pace to go at first (everybody started wayy too slow). Was overambitious after that and then tried to hold the pace for the rest of the workout... kind of worked I guess. Felt really bad intervals 3-8 after like 50m (quads extremely sore). At least outside of R shin/calf wasn't feeling bad. Elliot stopped after 3, Will was way back the first few, with me the next few, and then ran faster the last 2. Run with us! hahaha. Joel was really fast, almost with Jared (~2:43s). David and Connor were in the second group (5:30 each), looked pretty good (especially Connor). ~9mi total. Was super sore after but stretched during break in orchestra and I think that helped ;P.
Just looked back: apparently ran 2:47, 2:46, 2:49, 2:49, 2:48, 2:48, 2:51, 2:50 last year... which averages out to the same time (2:48.5). qq why I am still so slow.

Wed 10/9: Crazy tree! Sprained my ankle last time I ran this, but made it through ok this time. ;P ~7:30 pace, 6mi.

Thu 10/10: 4 on, 1 off x 6 at Lacy. Felt really good, ran with Will pretty much the whole time. Had to alter the course a bit because there was a hs race going on. Also didn't have a watch so totally ran through the 4th rest. ~8mi total.

Fri 10/11: Huntington, 6mi. Felt a little sluggish at first but got better. 7:30 pace.

Sat 10/12: AM: 4.23mi tempo at Alhambra Park in 26:51, 8 loops. First half of each felt nice b/c it was slightly downhill, and then the uphill portion sucked. Managed to hold decently well though. ~25sec behind Elliot, quite satisfied. Scott was surprisingly close to me today, so I think he had a good workout. Will fell back =/ and Rishabh wasn't doing too well. Also, David noooooo hurt his calf (getting out of bed this morning?). Hopefully he gets better soon. And Ani says he's quitting if he still isn't able to run by Friday =/. Be less broken team! ~9mi total.
PM: DDR! SSSSSSOOOOOO FUN! yay ;P Played quite a bit, only like 2 12's though (and lots of 11's, like usual)

Three strikes remaining

Mon 9/30: First day of classes! Ran Casting pond with extra around track because wanted extra mileage and can't really do strides anyway. ~9mi. Unfortunately, Juan was feeling really bad =/.

Tue 10/1: 5x1600 at Lacy. 5:53, 50, 57, 50, 49. Ran similar to Will, except he did the first few slower and did the last few faster. Joel and Elliot were ahead, but not by a huge amount... Was definitely a hard workout but felt decent I think. Could've been a lot worse? ~9mi total.
PM: DDR! Played a (more) decent amount, slowing working my way up to a whole night (after the season ends ofc).

Wed 10/2: Huntingson, 6.6mi. Pretty slow, 7:50 pace? Ran with Will. Strides in spikes!

Thu 10/3: 54321! Felt a little tired, but was ok overall. Ran near Rishabh and Jared, got dropped by Elliot and Joel. ~6mi total. Didn't ice b/c played some DDR at club fair after.

Fri 10/4: Prerace! 3.7mi b/c did extra in spikes. Strides felt good.

Sat 10/5: Pomona-Pitzer Invitational! Ran 29:53, not great but w/e. Joel, Jared, and Iggy had good races. Aditya and Pien went below 27, which is awesome, and Jared and Iggy made it under 28! Ian beat my PR by a second! (finally... haha) ~9mi total.

Total: 43.3mi + DDR.

Exhausted

Mon 9/23: AM: Lower Arroyo, 7.8mi, 58min.

Tue 9/24: AM: La Loma repeats, 4:56, 5:03, 4:56, 4:53, 4:52 for ~1300 each and a huge hill at the end. 9.5mi total. No barn workout! Strange Achilles pain for some reason, but only in recovery between intervals so not too worried.

Wed 9/25: PM: Garfield long way, 41min (!!! crazy fast), 5.7mi so around 7:15 pace. Felt solid. I've been feeling this strange calf tightness in the beginnings of runs for a while now, but it was never bad enough for me to note it. I stretch and bike before most runs, so not exactly sure why it's there...

Thu 9/26: AM: 6on, 2off x 4 at Lacy. Felt decent, bit behind Will the whole workout. Leg tired. ~8mi total.

Fri 9/27: AM: Tu Madre pretty easy, 5.6mi.
PM: 2mi around the track at like 8min pace. Easy peasy.

Sat 9/28: AM: Rose bowl loops, 29:10 for 7 loops (7.65k). Was within sight of Rishabh and Elliot but never managed to catch them. Rest of the pack fell back at around 3 laps. Felt amazingly good... probably started too slow and negative split a bit. Warmup 3 laps around cd 5k around rose bowl. 9.9mi total.
PM: DDR, not too much but played a few 11/12's.

Total: 48.5mi + DDR.

Catch up

Mon 9/16: AM: Lower Arroyo7.8mi, 59min. Felt easy though, probably because of all the stoplights. Had ankle taped. IT band felt pretty good.
PM: 20min bike.

Tue 9/17: AM: 12, 10, 8min at Lacy. Started a bit too fast, but still managed to avg around 2:57, 2:53, 2:50 per lap for the three. ~7.5mi. Tape sucks.
PM: 20min bike.

Wed 9/18: AM: Huntington, 6.1mi, ~7:50 pace. Felt good. Strides after felt good too. Tapeless! Most of the ppl ran really slow...
PM: 25min on the south field while most of the team played frisbee, 3mi. Sally took away most of my exercises!

Thu 9/19: AM: Loops around Lacy, ~1100m each. Ran with Elliot and Jared, 4:01, 3:58, 3:59, 3:53, 3:48. I think I'm way better at shorter interval work than longer stuff. 7.5mi.
PM: 15min bike, first time on the spinny ones. Really sore overall.

Fri 9/20: AM: San Gabriel, 4.3mi. 7:45 pace. Pushed the 6 strides after a little hard, might've messed up my groin... Also still really sore.
PM: 13:20 around the south field.

Sat 9/21: AM: 7.5k Arroyo tempo, ran horribly. 9:41, 9:46, 10:08. Overall 29:35... Thought I could get faster but groin started acting up around a lap in. In third lap, was just trying to finish. Week's over though, time to rest up. ~9.5mi.

Total: 47.3mi + 55min.

Don't hold back

Mon 9/9: AM: Water tower, went pretty easy, ~8.5mi? Everything felt great except L IT band discomfort... Strides afterwards were ok, but hip flexor still doesn't like speed. Good thing this is xc and not track.
PM: 20min bike.

Tue 9/10: AM: Shenendoah's, only did 4, 4:31, 4:25, 4:26, 4:23. Felt really good though, was generally with Jared and Joel. ~7.5mi. IT band felt great.

Wed 9/11: AM: Crazy tree. Sprained my ankle 4.5mi in, gg.
PM: Exercises.

Thu 9/12: AM: Exercises.
PM: Exercises (yay theraband!). Aquajogged 20min.

Fri 9/13: AM: Exercises, 40 min elliptical. L IT band hurting again for the first time since like Monday =/.
PM: 5 min on bike. Pasta feed!

Sat 9/14: UC Riverside Invitational! Didn't run b/c ankle =/. Team did pretty well though! Especially good performances from Ani, Rishabh, and Nick.

Attrition

Mon 9/2: AM: JPL run starting from Rose Bowl. 9.5mi in 80min, slow overall b/c uneven footing and lots of hills. Ran last mi fast in 7:15 with David. Was only supposed to go 32min out but felt really good so went the whole 42.
PM: Labor day so no practice. Mannion dinner though ;P. Groin and hip flexors really really really sore. Also sharp pain to the touch on outside of R knee, not sure why...

Tue 9/3: AM: Walked into the trainer's and was surprised by the sudden spike in number. Seems like our injured number just quadrupled from the JPL run... at least the guys' team still looks pretty healthy. 4x1200 at Lacy every 7min. 4:37, 4:30, 4:31, 4:23, took a long time to get warmed up. Apparently I went similar pace as Scott so wasn't a bad workout. ~6.5mi total. Team did Oak Groves but Andres said not to do the hills b/c of pain on other IT band. Outside of R knee (IT band?) pain and groin/hip flexor soreness were present throughout but manageable.
PM: 20min bike. Groin and hip flexors so bad... At least R knee/IT band doesn't hurt too much while biking.

Wed 9/4: AM: Huntingson up Los Robles, 6.1mi, 48min. Funny, didn't feel faster than 8min pace. Wasn't feeling great, especially in sore spots. I really hope it's not strained, but Sally says full range of motion = just soreness so gonna keep fingers crossed. Didn't do strides to be safe.
PM: 25min bike, felt really easy. Skipped out on theraband barn stuff. Feeling excited for tomorrow's San Marino hills!

Thu 9/5: AM: San Marino Hills, just the first 6. Probably ~7mi, I'll map it out later. Lots of waiting to regroup so went really fast up the hills. Felt decently good. Just normal L IT band pain after icing, but everything else seems to be getting better.
PM: 20min bike.

Fri 9/6: AM: Garfield Long Way, 5.7mi. I think pretty much every single recovery run I ask the time when we're done and it ends up being almost exactly 8min pace. It's like clockwork now.
PM: 15min bike. P90x is entertaining haha.

Sat 9/7: AM: 7.5k tempo at the arroyo: 9:57, 9:53, 9:44 for each 2.5k lap, 29:34 overall. Slower than I was hoping, but ohh well, still pretty solid. Felt pretty good throughout but guess I just ran out of gas... wanted to keep up with Jared on the last lap but guess it wasn't meant to be. L IT band hurting pretty bad after the CD. ~11mi.

Total: 45.8mi + 80min bike.
54mi equivalent.

The final preseason!

Mon 8/26: PM: Huntington up Virginia, 5.2mi for turn-arounds, ~8:30 pace. Felt pretty solid, nice to finally have people to run with.

Tue 8/27: AM: Lower Arroyo, 8mi for turn-arounds, ~7:50 pace. I'm liking this group we've got here. The frosh/soon to be sophomores are so fast... sub-7 for full is just ridic. Probably won't do lunges after practice anymore... L IT band was feeling pretty uncomfortable all afternoon.
PM: 12min around south field, went to the "beaver barn" after... apparently we're gonna start doing lower body strengthening twice a week. ~1.4mi.

Wed 8/28: AM: Canons! Only did 5 b/c injured: 3:04, 3:05, 3:04, 3:00, 2:57 or so? Did much better than expected. I'll just say 7mi. I'm going to die if we're doing Patrician tomorrow... need a recovery day.
PM: 15min around south field, ~1.6mi. Was considering biking b/c IT band was pretty uncomfortable all afternoon but felt fine while running so I guess it's ok.

Thu 8/29: AM: Patrician turning back at Colorado, 7.7mi, just under 8min pace. IT band was hurting much much more than usual, esp in the last 3mi. Saddd.
PM: 16 min on bike, only biking afternoons from now on. Got lots of new exercises, plus 120 lunges and lots of hip / butt and band stuff... oww.

Fri 8/30: AM: Tu Madre, 5.6mi around 8min pace again. Felt harder than it should've but wasn't too bad. Got our uniforms today!
PM: 15 min bike. Hip only hurting a bit, all ready to race tomorrow!

Sat 8/31: Redlands Invitational! 22:32 6k, pretty happy. Goal was to run 6 min pace and finish fast - ended up running 6 min avg pace with 5:50, 12:10, ?? (18:30?) splits. Ran with David the whole race - good teamwork. Was around 10m behind Mark until the last mile. Surged hard 1k to go, but still got picked by David and Mark =/. Overall pretty satisfied for early in the season and being injured for so long, only 27 sec off from 2 years ago. ~7.5mi total.

Total: 44mi + 31 min bike.

Last week of laziness

Mon 8/19: 4.2mi around Seoul International Park and Lafeyette Recreation Center. Started out way too fast (7:40 pace), averaged 8:08. IT band felt good the first half and then eh the second.

Tue 8/20: Not sure what I was doing, but decided to run to USC. 5.5mi, prolly like 8:30 pace. IT band felt good like the first 2mi, then felt bad another 2, then ok again.

Wed 8/21: Ran an easy and short loop with lots of laps around Seoul International Park. ~2.7mi, 8min pace? R knee was hurting more than L side for some reason o_O.

Thu 8/22: Off, did core and exercises.

Fri 8/23: AM: Worst run ever... did same 4.2mi course as Monday, but was feeling tired and dead everywhere. Not used to morning runs at all... especially when dehydrated, no food in 17 hours, and sleep deprived. At least my IT band wasn't hurting. I don't even wanna know how slow I was going.

Sat 8/24: Huntington up Virginia with extra around Lacy, 6mi.

Total: 22.6mi.

Wait, I have 2 weeks?

Mon 8/13: 1mi around the track. No pain!

Thu 8/15: ~2mi on treadmill.

Fri 8/16: Lap around tech, 1.5mi. Felt decent I guess. Saw Ani walking haha.

Cross Training?

Mon 7/1: First day of work! Biked to/from work-tech and to/from apartment-work... ~90min (spread throughout day).

Tue 7/2: Biked to/from work-tech and to/from apartment-work... ~90min (spread throughout day). Omg such good KBBQ after at Bud Namu. Moved into apartment (upper body?) and actually slept there.

Wed 7/3: Didn't have my bike... walked around a lot.

Thu 7/4: Off, Aion. Level 27! No work for the holiday ;P.

Fri 7/5: Biked ~60min to/from work, fell while singing to Amy o_O. Bar hopping yay.

Sat 7/6: More KBBQ! Went to Castle this time, walked for like half an hour back to tech from metro.
No exercise weekend... so lazy.

Total: Lots of walking and biking...?

Tue 6/18: Ran with bro a bit. ~2mi.
PM: Sleepover at Aneesh's!

Wed 6/19: So dizzy... didn't eat like all day o_O.

Thu 6/20: Ran with bro a bit. ~1.5mi.

Fri 6/21: Off.

Sat 6/22: An hour of tennis. Felt really good during, but like an hour later my L hip flexor and the top of my left foot were hurting pretty bad... It was really fun though!

Sun 6/23: Ran ~1mi.

Thankfully this week, my IT band started feeling a bit better... gonna start doing strengthening now.

Total: 6.5mi + tennis.

Crappity Crap

Mon 6/10: 6mi, Garfield Long Way, ~7:20 pace. IT band hurting a ton after the run... couldn't walk.

Tue 6/11: 7mi, Down Lombardy, California, to Michillian?, back Del Mar, Rosemead, San Pasqual with the fast guys. 6:50 pace for first 3.5mi then died horribly. IT band completely dead after... can't run for a few days prolly.

Wed-Fri: Offity-off. I'm so dumb.

Sat 6/15: Home!

Sun 6/16: Got a Samsung Galaxy S3! Biked to Tmobile for a new sim card. 12min to, 20min back, 3.4mi each way.

Total: 13mi + 32min.

You only get fast by running

Mon 6/3: San Gabriel, 4.1mi, 31min. Felt harder than it should've. IT band and shins hurting a bit in the beginning but got better.

Tue 6/4: Lower Arroyo, 7.6mi, turned around several times so pace/time unsure but ~7:30. Definitely was working but felt pretty good throughout. Love this run! Been waiting forever to do this.

Wed 6/5: Biked 1hr, 16.23mi. Level 12 at 85rpm. Was kind of difficult for the first 2/3 but the last 1/3 felt way easy (probably helps that Mikasa came and distracted me ;P).

Thu 6/6: Tu Madre, 4.9mi. Felt really good (~7:30 pace).

Fri 6/7: PM: Bit of DDR. Lazyday.

Life is too hard

Mon 5/27: 45min bike, 12.05mi. Knees/IT band were hurting a bit. Benched 8x115, 8x120, 8x125 (barely), 5x130 (w/ help on the 5th).

Tue 5/28: PM: Huntington down Oxford, 5.8mi, 45min (7:45 pace!). Knees a bit sore at times and some side stitches (dinner was so bad...), but felt really good other than that! We ran through sprinklers on Huntington! ;P

Wed 5/29: 60min bike, 15.8mi.

Thu 5/30: Upper Arroyo, 7mi. ~8min pace. Finally got to run in the arroyo! It's been forever! Saw the bros, Ani, and Ian in the beginning of the run doing Garfield long way.

Fri 5/31: Omg 3 sets due today. Working for all of the last 2 days straight...
PM: So much DDR awesomeness! And then nerf gun fighting! and then more DDR! Such a fun evening. ;P

Sat 6/1: DDR in the SAC. So much soreness... quads, knees, IT band, shins.

We've come too far to give up who we are

Mon 5/20: 30min bike. 7.79mi, not that it actually means anything. Benched for the first time in forever: 8x95, 8x105, 8x115, 6x125lbs, felt really good! Did random other upper body stuff.

Tue 5/21: San Gabriel, 4.1mi, 31min. Felt pretty fast (7:30 pace...). Apparently my IT band's just inflamed (as expected...), and if I foam roll it like 4 times a day and stretch and ice a ton, it will go away.

Wed 5/22: 45min bike. 12.00mi (totally not planned ;P). Benched 8x115, 8x115, 8x115, 6x125, was pretty easy. Rob did 10 reps instead of 8. =/

Thu 5/23: Garfield long way starting/ending at Page w/ Emil, Elliot, and Patrick, 6.2mi, 48min (7:44 pace? Didn't feel that fast). Felt really good, IT band uncomfortable at times but nothing too bad. Slight L IT band pain in the evening.

Thu 5/16: California, Lake, Green, in PCC a bit. 3mi, around 8:15 pace w/ Jean and Emil. Quads a bit sore.
Goalied again... got my R thumb whacked by a hockey stick so can't really use it at all =/.

Fri 5/17: DDR!

Sat 5/18: Off. Outside of L knee hurting.

Sun 5/19: Lacy long way starting/ending at Page. ~4.5mi, 35 min. Just under 8 pace. L knee hurting after run.

Alan running 4:03 (kicking for the lead) and finally PRing after 3 years, Pien leading the 2nd heat and making finals, Ani running a solid 4:19. Stephanie PRing 2:23 in the 800. Juliette 11:50 in the Steeple, getting the school record and a point for the girls' team. BVoss making finals in both hurdles.

Sat 4:27: SCIAC FINALS! Notable performances: Stephanie PRing by 4 seconds to get 4:48.28, 0.10 sec from the school record and 3 points. Juliette 19:29 in the 5k (I swear that's a PR). Sarah being a boss (like usual) and Paige winning shot (like usual) = more pointssss. Iggy breaking 16 in the 5k yea boiiii.

Why not?

Mon 4/1: 2.5mi around track. Felt really good! IT band hurt later in the evening though.

Tue 4/2: CRAPPPP apparently knee is more inflamed, not IT band, knee. So kindofish another injury... sigh. 20min bike.

Wed 4/3: 2.5mi around track. Didn't have much pain while running, but somehow I always have pain during the day. Hopefully that gets better. At least it was less inflamed today. Quad sore.

Thu 4/4: FIRST REAL TRACK WORKOUT IN 66 DAYS! I'M BACK IN THIS!
8x200m every 2min, with like 5min break in middle. 31, 31, 31, 32; 32, 31, 31, 32. Felt pretty easy at first, but then quads died horribly. Last few were almost all out. Probably was a bit overambitious, but survived (just barely). At least L knee/IT band wasn't hurting during the workout. Hurt in the beginning of CD b/c took a really long break. ~3mi total. So much quad death = ice baths all day!

Fri 4/5: Bike 15min. Quads/hamstrings sore.

Sat 4/6: 2:17.95 for 800m! First race this season! Sssooooo frickennnn slowwwwwww. Ran through 400 at 66, absolutely died the last 200m... couldn't pick up my legs at all. I blame sore quads. ~3.5mi.

Total: 11.5mi + 35min.

Mon 3/24: More scrubbing mold. This time the ceiling wasn't so low so IT band didn't hurt so bad.

Tue 3/25: Sightseeing Central Park/Metropolitan Museum/Times Square! So many days off b/c lazy...

Thu 3/27: Hiking (6.2mi) and climbing at Joshua Tree! Much more tiring than expected. Sssoooo fun though! So much hot tubbing!

Tue 3/19: 4x400. 80, 75, 76, 73. Yay for uneven/negative splits! IT band starting hurting on 3rd-4th one. Got a hugeee massage from Erin, so hopefully that'll make it better ;P. 2.5mi total.

Wed 3/20: Took today off since IT band hurt too much. Used rowing machine thing for 8min.

Thu 3/21: 1.25mi b/c no sleep/finals.

Fri 3/22: Off b/c no sleep/finals.

Thu 3/14: To Lacy and back with the team! Workout was 6 striders. Finally didn't have to use tape! I'm so out of shape... so out of breath from strides and stairs. ~3.5mi.

Fri 3/15: Oxy Distance Carnival! The ferris wheel was super fun. And churros! And cotton candy!
JK, but I did the WU/CD with Mark/Jared's 1500m. ~3mi.

Sat 3/16: Off. Out and about all day. (Mall and karaoke!)

Some things never change

Mon 3/4: 15min bike and ~1mi around the track. Running kind of hurts, so I won't do that again for a while. At least the ankle's not horrible.

Tue 3/5: (4 on, 1 off) x 4 with 5 min for 3rd interval. 5 min WU/CD. 30min total. Level 13 7.5 for on, level 8 6.5 for off. Felt AWESOME. ;P

Wed 3/6: 22.5min bike, 22.5min elliptical. Felt pretty good, level 10 throughout.

Thu 3/7: (8 on, 3 off) x 2. 7/6 min WU/CD. 35min total. Level 12 (bit of 13 at end) 7.5 for on, level 8 6.5 for off. Pretty easy, but knee started hurting.

Fri 3/8: Biked 5min and then IT band started hurting. Ran 1.5mi around the track w/ ankle taped.

Sat 3/9: Off. Out and about (in LA).

Sun 3/10: Off.

Hesitation

Mon 2/11: Off. Ice/US/stretching.

Tue 2/12: 7 laps around the track. It was painful when I tried to keep up w/ Jared, so I had to slow down quite a bit. It starting hurting a bit when I got to 7 laps too.

Wed 2/13: 5 laps, really slow. Pretty much pain free.

Thu 2/14: Off, sets suck.

Fri 2/15: Prerace w/ Mark! 3.4mi. Not sure if it was the best idea to up mileage like that all of a sudden, but I think I survived ;P. R knee was hurting a bit, but nothing out of the ordinary.

Sat 2/16: Immafailure. Again =/.

Injury Prone

Mon 2/5: Lower Arroyo, 7.8mi, 58min. Felt really tired, probably b/c sleep deprivation and harder workouts. Outside of knee hurt after again...

Tue 2/6: Woke up w/ outside of knee pain. Trainer says it's probably IT band. Taking a few days off w/ ibuprofen, icing, and ultrasound. This means I can't race on Saturday... and I was so excited too =/.

Wed - Sun: Off. Ice/US/stretching every day. I guess my IT band's starting to feel better...

Sat: I'm a failure.

Disappointment

Mon 1/28: Off. Missed the long run b/c I pulled an all nighter and had to do sets... extensions are bad. =/

Tue 1/29: 8, 12, 16, 12, 8 ladder. 2:50, 4:23, 5:44, 4:18, 2:48. Lap splits 83, 87; 88, 88, 87; 85, 85, 88, 86; 86, 86, 86; 84, 84. Scott wanted me to go straight 85s... but that didn't happen. I don't understand how the 1600 was faster than the 1200s. I guess my legs just felt heavy. The 1600 was good though. Skipped the bonus lap at the end b/c my hamstring tendon was feeling a bit tender. 7mi.

Wed 1/30: Lacy long way plus 3 laps in Lacy. 5.5mi. Ran by myself since I was really tired, team did Garfield long way plus 1 lap.

Thu 1/31: (4 on, 2 off) * 5. ~3:02, 2:56, 2:54, 2:54, 2:46 per lap, ran w/ Scott (and Alan at end). 7.5mi. Actually surprised myself at how much faster I was able to go. Outside of L quad especially sore for some reason. Outside of L knee had mild sharp pain after the workout, especially going up the stairs. Andre said it was something to do w/ my meniscus... hopefully it'll be ok.

Fri 2/1: Missed practice today b/c of sets... again. OMG why am I so bad at this. Scott's probably really disappointed in me, but even more, I'm really disappointed in myself. It's probably hard to believe since I'm so slow now, but there are few things in life I care more about than running.
PM: DDR! I was kind of dumb and decided to play hard songs without warming up properly. Hamstring tendon a tiny bit tender again, but it wasn't too bad. Played a ton of really hard stuff (and beat Monolith on c450)! Every time I was like let's do something easy... and then picked an 11 like tears in may ;P.

Sun 2/3: 2mi (around campus + a bit more) w/ Carrie, Dan, Sarai, and Jenny.

Busybusy procrastinate some more

Mon 1/21: Lower Arroyo backwards! 7.8mi. The team apparently met at 3:30pm and did water tower... so Elliot and I just ran together. Will ran with us for like the last 1.5mi!
First ice bath of the season! I'm so happy I can finally do long runs!

Tue 1/22: 6x800m every 6 with the girls. 2:52, 2:51, 2:53, 2:53, 2:50, 2:51. Super consistent! My 400 splits were all between 85 and 87 except when Stan made me go out at 83 on the 5th one. We kind of screwed up Steph's workout again, though =/. 6.4mi.

Wed 1/23: To crazy tree and back w/ Juan. 5.4mi. Didn't run whole b/c quads sore from yesterday. This is awesome. I have sore muscles, and my tendinitises aren't super flared up! I think this means I can actually get stronger? Yes?
Post-workout $10 all you can eat KBBQ! ;P

Thu 1/24: Jogged in Lacy while team did 8, 6, 4. 7.5 laps in ~29min, came back long way. 7.5mi.
Shins were hurting a bit during warmup.
Post-workout 2 steaks and then Din Tai Fung! ;P

Fri 1/25: San Gabriel4.3mi. Team ran Tu Madre, ran w/ twins and Ane but they dropped b/c I was in a rush to make chamber rehearsal.
PM: Mount Wilson night! It's a lot different organizing it than being in it... still had a lot of fun though! and was really active!

Sat 1/26: Off. Chamber music weekend #1!

Sun 1/27: PM: DDR! Passed Delirium again. Tried Power Rangers a few times and failed =/. I really don't have enough speed for streams above 180 (though I could kinda do the 180 streams at the end of Nico Nico Douga).

So Lazy

Mon 1/14: Orange Grove. 6.7mi. Team did lower but not ready yet... =/.
Hamstring tendon hurts a bit. Sad. Think I did a little more than I should've...

Tue 1/15: 7x400. 80, 82, 78, 78, 76, 74, 75. Took it a bit easy and jogged between. I blame lack of consistency on Stan. We were injured / didn't want to get injured so we went every 3 min w/ the girls. We kind of screwed up Steph's work out though.
To Allen WU/CD.  5.6mi.
Hamstring tendon still hurts a bit. Sigh. Maybe should've taken it even easier...

Wed 1/16: Team went Huntingson, Alex and I turned back early (at 19 min). 4.8mi, 40min.

Thu 1/17: Team did 16 striders at Lacy. Jogged around several times w/ Trisha. 5.5mi.

Fri 1/18: Garfield and back, again. 4.8mi. Shins were hurting pretty bad.

Starting Anew

Welcome to track season 2013! In case you didn't know, my running career in the last year has been defined by injuries. Currently, I'm attempting to pretend they don't exist. Hopefully a 2.5 month break since the end of XC was enough to make my body runable.

Sun 1/6: Track team meeting. We have a new track coach! I wonder how this is going to be.
Coach calls out if we want lockers. Michael says yes.

Mon 1/7: Lacy long way up stairs. 3.5mi, 30min. 10min bike.
Slight R knee pain.
Roll call every day? Ohh gosh this is gonna suck.

Tues 1/8: To Garfield and back. 4.8mi, 38min. We have a new distance runner, Lew!
Slight R knee pain and slight inner L hamstring tendon pain (THE XC injury...).
Coach calling out if we want lockers.
"Michael" "Wait, Michael Zhang?" "Yes." "Didn't you already ask me at the meeting?" "Well somebody's got an attitude problem."

Wed 1/9: To San Gabriel. 4.2mi, 35min. 5min bike. Went really slowly. Slight innter L hamstring tendon pain. I can feel it. This is exactly how the beginning of tendinitis feels. It's happened way too many times for me.
"I wouldn't take you to meets anyway since you're a partier?" "Wait, what does partying have to do with track?" "You're kidding, right?" "You know parties at Caltech are a lot different than what you're thinking. We operate them differently than at other schools. I can explain it to you if you want. Do you want me to?" "No." (Go away)
I'm not trolling the new coach, I swear!
Michael looks at the the roster. Next to him name, under the locker column: blank. Gosh darn it, after him asking me if I want a locker twice, he still hasn't checked the box.

Thu 1/10:
AM: Lacy long way + 1 lap from Page. 4.6mi, 37min. Apparently Andy and Elliot were behind me for a large portion of the run. SKI TRIP!

Fri 1/11: Off, was going to ski but too lazy / tired / sleepy.

Sat 1/12: Awesome day of skiing w/ Pien, Elliot, and Jean! Double black w/ Elliot = so much quad death...
We found a ski racing area! PR: 22.61! (I think that's decently good.) Elliot was close! excited for next year.

Sun 1/13:
PM: DDR! Carrie's back!
