Mon 5/11: Off.
Tue 5/12: 3mi, Levi's. Calves still sore, quad better.
Wed 5/13: Hetch Hetchy, 5mi.
Thu 5/14: Bike to work day, got my biked fixed and a free shirt without actually biking xD. PM: Guadelupe to Gold and back, 5mi. Felt pretty good during the run, but calves were quite sore afterwards.
Fri 5/15: Basketball! Played a lot.
Sat 5/16: Levi's 3mi, then off to SF!
Sun 5/17: Bay to Breakers! We woke up at 5:30 and took the muni to get to the start line by 6:30. Jogged around a bit and got warmed up to line up in the front of corral A by 7:15, which was much too early. Watched a bunch of records being announced and random other announce-y (like hey look, everybody is throwing tortillas around!) things for 45 minutes until we finally got to start. Was a bit stiff at first but loosened up around a mile in. It wasn't too crowded since we went out at around 6:15 pace for the first mile. Jon and I stuck together for the first 4 miles (3 mile split was 20min but included Hayes' hill so it only got easier from there), drafted off each other a little bit during then, and then I took off. I started getting a bit of a side stitch around then too, and it kept getting worse and worse. I blame the fact that I couldn't use the bathroom for a whole 45 minutes before the start because I would have lost my place in the front of the corral. Anyway, I kept passing people until around mile 5.5, when this guy in a banana suit passed me. He wasn't going that much faster, but I decided he would be a good guy to keep up with, so we kind of gradually kept speeding up and pushing each other. Around 800m from the end, I decided to start kicking even though by this point my stomach was in quite a bit of pain, and then he noticed when I passed him and kicked as well, finishing a few seconds before me. Turns out he went to the same HS as Justine and Chris Wong. Small world. Anyway, when I passed the finish line the clock said around 49:50 and I was really happy for going under 50 since that was my original goal. Took me around 5 minutes and another guy saying he finished in 48 to realize that was the first gun time so I actually finished in under 48! The race felt really good other than that stupid side stitch (yay for not actually racing until the very end). My quads were really sore afterwards though, so jogging back to Jon's was quite difficult / I kept saying to slow down. The free food, drinks, and swag made it all ok though. Race time was 47:24 (yay first PR in over a year! - and longest race ever by far!), 21st in division, 6:22 pace overall, Hayes' hill in 3:59.44. Maybe next year we'll dress up and be more interesting (but still actually run it, fo sho). ~11mi total.
Went to the panhandle and enjoyed all the festivities afterwards, was super fun!
Total: 27mi.
